Hidilyn Diaz celebrates gold medal win with sushi, udon and pizza

MANILA, Philippines — Still revved up from her dramatic gold medal win on Monday night at the Tokyo Olympics, weightlifting wonder Hidilyn Diaz continued her celebration into the wee hours of Tuesday.

Diaz, in a video posted on her YouTube channel, even gave a glimpse of her first meal as an Olympic champion, the first Filipino ever to win gold.

The 30-year-old Zamboanga City native had her first meal at around 2 a.m on Tuesday at the Olympic Village’s main two-story dining hall that offers 700 menu options and serves about 48,000 meals a day.

The champion’s meal? Pizza and two of the most popular Japanese dishes, sushi and udon.

“Gusto kong pumunta sa Japanese sa cuisine kasi andito tayo sa Japan, at ano pa kakainin ko kundi Japanese food. Matagal ko rin tong hindi nakain,” he said in her vlog.

(I want to eat Japanese cuisine because we’re here in the Japan and what else should I eat but Japanese food. I haven’t eaten these in so long.)

In the video, Diaz also bared her plan to write book about her long journey toward winning the elusive Olympic gold.

“Abangan niyo rin na iinterviewhin ko ang Team HD. Sabi ko na gagawa kami ng libro, Team HD, the dream team after kong manalo to give inspiration sa mga bata,” Diaz said. “Para malaman nila ano bang mindset ng Olympic champion. Sana bibili kayo pag may libro na.”

(Watch out for my interview with Team HD. I already said that we’re going make a book. Team HD, the dream team, after winning to give inspiration to the youth. So that they will know the mindset of an Olympic champion. Hope you will buy our book.)

Hidilyn flew back home to the Philippines, along with fellow Olympian Margielyn Didal, on Wednesday.
