Canada’s Maggie MacNeil has won Canada’s first gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics Monday, after finishing first in the women’s 100m butterfly.
MacNeil, 21, finished with a time of 55.59 seconds, setting a Canadian record at her first Olympic games.
The silver medal went to China’s Zhang Yufei and the bronze to Australia’s Emma McKeon.
MacNeil hails from London, Ont. and had previously won silver at the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay on Sunday alongside Penny Oleksiak, Kayla Sanchez, Rebecca Smith and Taylor Ruck.
Canada currently holds three medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics — all in the swimming category.
