Magnitude 6.1 earthquake strikes India-Myanmar border area, rattles Bangladesh – Nationwide

A shallow and robust earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck the Myanmar-India border area early on Friday, however there have been no quick stories of injury.

In keeping with India’s Nationwide Middle for Seismology, the quake was at depth of 12 km, and was about 140 km away of Aizawl in northeastern India.

It was felt in Chittagong in Bangladesh and as far-off as east Indian metropolis of Kolkata, some 280 miles (450.62 km) from Aizawl, in keeping with witness accounts posted on European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre’s (EMSC) web site and by customers on Twitter.

“Very robust,” one such witness posted on EMSC from Chittagong, which is about 184 km (115 miles) west of the quake’s epicenter.

Tremors had been felt throughout states in northeastern India and main cities in Bangladesh, in keeping with EMSC and India’s earthquake monitoring company.

EMSC pegged the temblor’s magnitude at 5.8, after having earlier given it a magnitude of 6.0.
