We are all aware of Taliban taking over the Afghan under their power. After the collapse of Ashraf Ghani government, many sportsperson flew away from country as the members of Taliban were hunting them down. One such incident was reported by the volley ball team coach, Suraya Afzali (named changed because of privacy, that one of their best star player was beheaded by Taliban.
The deceased name was Mahjabin Hakimi. She joined the well-known volley ball team recently. As per the news, she was killed in the beginning of October but the news wasn’t out because her parents were threatened not to do so. After Taliban took over Afghan sovereign in August many of the team players of volley ball team flew from country. Two were successful escaping, but Mahjabin Hakimi wasn’t lucky enough.
It is well known that Taliban do not support women playing sports, but they totally boycott any sportsmen in the country. After the incident, the insurgents of Taliban started to hunt down other members of the team, most possibly they knew that many of the players weren’t successful in escaping the country after they taken over the country. Their main agenda was to hunt down women athletes. As per Afzali, the insurgents were looking for volley ball team players who competed in the foreign and domestic competitions and appeared in media programs in the past.
After this encounter, Afzali quoted to the Persian Independent that “All the players of the volleyball team and the rest of the women athletes are in a bad situation and in despair and fear.” And he added “Everyone has been forced to flee and live underground.”
The sportsmen of the country are treated as national assets and treasure, but it looks like even they don’t stand the freedom to live their life as per their choice. Recently, FIFA and the Qatar government successful evacuated over 100 women and their family members out of the Afghanistan, members included even belonged to the National football team.
Eventually, it is stated that after Taliban took over Afghanistan, all the women activities including sports and physical activities around the country including secondary school are ceased.
We can clearly see the cruelty of the Taliban in the public. The reason is not known why they killed but the news but this depicts real picture of the new Taliban. The other details are yet to come in media and public.
