Denver Colfax Marathon has partnered with Denver Worldwide Airport to provide runners a once-in-a-lifetime expertise.
DENVER — The Denver Colfax Marathon and Denver Worldwide Airport (DIA) are partnering to provide runners the once-in-a-lifetime expertise of operating a race on an airport runway.
“5K on the Runway” is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10, when runners will collect at 6 a.m. for a dawn 5K on a runway on the Denver airport.
All members should be off the runway by 7 a.m. so DIA can resume full operations at 8 a.m.
Registration for the race begins Tuesday, July 21, at 7 a.m. Racers can register on the Denver Colfax Marathon web site.
Registration is $49 for adults and $39 for youth 8-17. Parking is included with the registration payment. Racers will get a runway-themed shirt, an vintage silver airplane medal and free runner images.
United Airways, the presenting sponsor, shall be internet hosting a post-race breakfast and different festivities at their hangar.
The airport is working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and its airline companions to make sure the race is not going to disrupt service.
DIA makes use of six runways for air visitors. This may permit the airport to host the race with out disrupting regular early morning operations.
