Young children are even closer to getting the COVID-19 vaccine after The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) unanimously voted to recommend giving Pfizer’s vaccine an Emergency Use Authorization for children ages 5 to 11.

ACIP is the independent group of experts who advise the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The recommendation goes to CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, who will make the final decision on whether to allow an Emergency Use Authorization.

Now, Colorado is working on partnerships to get kids the COVID-19 and flu vaccines, and are planning out more than 100 mobile clinics and events across the state at places you’d expect to see kids.

The state says there are 479,895 kids in the 5-11 age group, and they’re hoping to get 50% of them vaccinated in 12 weeks.

Pfizer’s kid shots contain a third of the vaccine dose that’s already been used to vaccinate millions of people 12 and older. The 5- to 11-year-olds will receive two shots, three weeks apart, the same schedule as everyone else — but a smaller amount in each shot, using a smaller needle.
