World No. 46 Bianca Andreescu introduced Monday that she received’t play within the upcoming Australian Open to present herself “additional time” to recuperate mentally and bodily.

Andreescu, 21, cited time spent in quarantine and her grandmother’s bout with COVID-19 that landed her within the intensive care unit as her causes.

“A whole lot of days, I didn’t really feel like myself, particularly whereas I used to be coaching and/or enjoying matches,” Andreescu posted, partly, to Twitter. “I felt like I used to be carrying the world on my shoulders. I couldn’t detach myself from every little thing that was happening off the courtroom; was feeling the collective unhappiness and turmoil round and it took it’s toll on me. I need to give myself time to re-set, recuperate and develop from this …”

Andreescu final performed at Indian Wells in October and her most up-to-date victory was the 2019 U.S. Open. She superior to the ultimate of the 2021 Miami Open and misplaced to world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty.

Andreescu has made the Spherical of 64 twice in Melbourne, together with 2021.

She was ranked a career-high No. 4 on Oct. 21, 2019.
