Mel Lastman, a former mayor of Toronto, has died.
Lastman was 88, and most notably served as the primary mayor of a newly amalgamated Toronto from 1998 to 2003. He additionally served because the mayor of North York from 1973 to 1997.
His son, Blayne Lastman, confirmed his dying.

Previous to coming into politics, Lastman opened the primary Unhealthy Boy furnishings retailer in Scarborough, Ont.
His spouse, Marilyn, had died in January of 2020 after a brief combat with sickness.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford tweeted his condolences Saturday evening after studying of Lastman’s dying.
“He was a terrific Mayor and he touched many lives. Mel, you’ll really be missed. My ideas are with the Lastman household at this troublesome time,” learn Ford’s tweet.
A funeral below his title has been set at Benjamin’s Park Memorial Chapel on Dec. 13 at 10 a.m.
