MANILA, Philippines—Rising Filipino lifter Vanessa Sarno simply missed out on a podium end on the 2021 Worldwide Weightlifting Federation World Championships on Monday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Sarno was tied with Patricia Strenius of Sweden and Olivia Reeves of the USA however needed to accept fifth place by way of tiebreak within the girls’s 71kg class.
The 18-year-old Sarno, tipped as the subsequent Filipino weightlifting star after Hidilyn Diaz, had a complete raise of 231kg.
Sarno, who gained two gold medals within the Asian Weightlifting Championship final April, cleared 103kg on her third attempt within the snatch and 128kg on her first try within the clear and jerk.
One other Filipino in Elreen Ando positioned fifth within the girls’s 59kg on Saturday.
The 23-year-old Tokyo Olympian tallied a mixed raise of 214kg.
In the meantime, Margaret Colonia, cousin of Rio Olympian Nestor Colonia, had a troublesome marketing campaign after ending 14th within the girls’s 64kg on Sunday.
