MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala had a triumphant debut in her maiden Wimbledon campaign on Monday.
Eala steamrolled Solana Sierra of Argentina, 6-2, 6-4, in the first round of the Wimbledon girls singles tournament at Court 6 in London.
Her dominant victory came just a couple of days after she was shown the door by Mara Guth of Germany in a quarterfinal upset in the J1 Roehampton in London.

The 16-year-old Eala is aiming for a third Grand Slam crown after winning a pair of girls doubles titles in the 2020 Australian Open and 2021 French Open.
Eala, seeded second in the tournament, faces Ane Mintegi Del Olmo of Spain in the second round.
Del Olmo dumped Eleonora Alvisi of Italy, 6-1, 6-0, in her opening match.
