MANILA, Philippines — Carlos Yulo is set to receive P750,000 in special incentives from the Philippine Sports Commission for his double medal feat in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships at Kitakyushu General Gymnasium in Japan.

The PSC Board approved the granting of P500,000 for Yulo’s gold medal win in vault and P250,000 for his silver medal finish in parallel bars.

“He has bounced back and showed us all that he is still our world champion in gymnastics,” said PSC chair William “Butch” Ramirez.

“Every incentive that he receives is well-deserved. By sheer will and determination, Caloy has created his own niche in the halls of Philippine Sports history. Caloy is truly an inspiration to our youth and Filipino athletes.” he added.

Yulo claimed the top prize in vault after tallying a score of 14.916 points.

He was leading in parallel bars with 15.300 points before China’s Hu Xuwei, the sixth gymnast to take the stage, scored 15.466 to secure the gold.

The 21-year-old Tokyo Olympian would’ve had two golds had it not been for a costly penalty that kept him from defending his title in floor.

Yulo was deducted 0.3 points for falling out of bounds in his floor routine and had to settle for fifth place with a score of 14.566.
