Decide Throws Out Purdue Pharma’s Deal to Protect Sacklers From Opioid Lawsuits

A federal decide in Manhattan overturned a roughly $4.5 billion settlement between OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma LP and members of the Sackler household who personal the drugmaker, a shocking choice that raises questions on the way forward for the corporate and its homeowners, who’ve been accused of fueling the nation’s opioid disaster.

Decide Colleen McMahon of the Southern District of New York dominated late Thursday that authorized releases that might defend members of the Sackler household from civil opioid lawsuits are usually not permitted beneath the chapter code.
