Robby Krieger, 75, is a guitarist and singer-songwriter who was a member of the Doors. He is the author, with Jeff Alulis, of the memoir, “Set the Night on Fire: Living, Dying and Playing Guitar With the Doors” (Little, Brown). He spoke with Marc Myers.

Like all good rock ’n’ roll childhoods, I was sent away to boarding school in my midteens. My grades in high school were crashing and I was getting into trouble with friends.
