MANILA, Philippines—Filipino karateka James De Los Santos has surpassed his previous medal count in 2020 when he collected his 37th for 2021 after his championship run in The Athlete’s E-Tournament #6.

De Los Santos, the no.1-ranked ekata practitioner in the world, beat world no.2 Matias Moreno Domont, 25.66-25, in the final for his record-breaking gold medal.

“The Athlete’s E-Tournament #6 has been concluded! I finally broke my previous overall record of 36 to 37 golds this year,” posted De Los Santos on Facebook.

“But I’m not finished. There are still a few more tournaments left for this year. Time to finish it strong!”

De Los Santos has been competing in eKata since the middle of 2020 as no physical competitions are being held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 31-year-old Philippine international matched his 36-gold medal tally on October 17 when he triumphed in the sixth leg of the Okinawa E-Tournament World Series beating Abdellatif Choukri.
