In 1954, two visiting players arrive at a gate in London SW19 and ask to see an arena. The club’s closed, an old man says, except for members. The players plead, we’ve come all the way from Johannesburg to see this place. The gatekeeper relents and the young men go in and just stare at the grass.
Happy, the old man asks.
